Lindes Lane (corner of Rundle Place), Adelaide
Open Friday-Saturday from 6pm-2am
Adelaide’s best kept secret… Have you heard about the speakeasy-style bar in Rundle Mall that’s hidden behind a fireplace? Well, this is it! Part of the Lindes Lane venue in a small laneway, you can find the Barlow Room around a corner, downstairs and with a secret wall that opens this quaint space. Reminiscent of the prohibition days, its a little rough around the edges and is complete with an old German piano – all adding to its charm.
286 Rundle Street, Adelaide
Open Wednesday-Thursday from 6pm-1am& Friday-Saturday from 3pm-3am
One of the hottest places in Adelaide for a cocktail, Distill is a bit of an Adelaide icon – a longstanding bar and club that brings the much needed foot traffic from Adelaide’s west end down to the east. It is a place where the beautiful people of Adelaide go, so be sure to dress to impress! With regular parties and events throughout the week and special guests on weekends, if you haven’t been to Distill yet you are surely missing out.
27 Hindley Street, Adelaide (formerly XL Superclub)
Open Saturdays from 9pm-6am
Until recently known as XL Superclub, Downtown On Hindley can be found on the east side of Hindley Street. Its former venue name and look was undoubtedly one of the most popular – if not the most popular – R&B clubs in the city, and with a fresh face we expect nothing left of the newbie. This venue has regular line-ups that exceed 1 hour and is the go-to place for all who love R&B.
270 Rundle Street, Adelaide
Open Monday-Saturday from 6pm & Sunday from 8pm
If you haven’t heard of Fumo Blu, you haven’t really experienced Adelaide yet… A hidden gem of the east end that’s not quite so secret, bar-goers swear by this incredibly cocktail bar. They make some of the best mixes in the state using the freshest ingredients and best quality alcohol. Word to the wise: order your drinks from the bar – cute bartenders!
Syngogue Place, Adelaide (just of Rundle Street)
Open Fridays & Saturdays from 8pm
Hacienda’s location takes place in a former church that previously housed the popular Apple Bar. The venue boasts a glamourous and at times odd look – with the giant disco ball holding its place from the former venue and the addition of interesting artwork that surrounds the huge dance floor. This club is up-market for those who like to dress nice, drink well and party into the night.
Mayfair Hotel, 45 King William Street, Adelaide
Open Monday-Thursday from 4pm-11pm, Friday from 3pm-2am, Saturday from 4pm-2am & Sunday from 2pm-10pm
The newest venue to make this month’s most popular list, Hennnessy is a classy rooftop bar located on the 13th floor of the Mayfair Hotel. Opening for Adelaide’s elite crowd and interstate and overseas guests, the space is small (for a rooftop bar) but stunning – complete with elegant decor from the marble bar to the stunning chandelier, leading out to a stylish deck and balcony.
15 Peel Street, Adelaide
Open Tuesday-Saturday from 12pm-late
The downstairs, almost hidden bar of Maybe Mae can be accessed via a combined premises of Peel Street and Leigh Street. The drinks on the menu are mostly premium only and the bartenders will make recommendations on how to make your favourite a bit fancier. Head on upstairs for a meal at Bread & Bone and enjoy the best of both worlds!
9 Hindley Street, Adelaide
Open Fridays & Saturdays
After a successful stint as Go Go Lady Boy in 2015, number 9 Hindley Street has done a lot to reinvent their image over the past 12 months – and it’s worked! Super California quickly made waves amongst the Adelaide club scene with a beach-meets-desert bar feel and the good ol’ juice bar making its welcome return.
73a Hindley Street, Adelaide
Open Wednesday-Saturday from 9pm-2am
Supermild has experienced a revival in recent months after finding a new Hindley Street home. Adelaide’s alternative crowds have always embraced this good times only club and the reopening has been no exception. Supermild is hosted in a small and dark venue and plays a variety of tunes from jazz to dance and grunge, and is exceptionally popular on Wednesday nights.
17 Semaphore Road, Semaphore
Open daily from 11am-11:45pm
One of the beach suburbs’ newest venues, Westside Massive is attracting a lot of attention since their recent opening. Makes sense, given the recent heatwave and the huge crowds that fled to Semaphore as a result. For those who haven’t heard of it yet, we’ve put it down to ‘a true blokes venue,’ consisting of the best beers Big Shed Brewing has to offer as well as giant burgers, nachos and pizzas.
